I've seen overstated claims pro and con about the question of weight exercising and fat burning capacity. Some experts imply that if you pump iron for per weeks time or two you'll be able to lb down an additional Big Mac and quart of ice cream per day.
The most gloomy experts declare that there is almost no improve in fat burning capacity from weight exercising. In the middle the declaration that gaining an additional lb of muscular cells increases fat burning capacity by about 50 energy per day is often created. So who's right?
The 50 fat per day notion comes from looking at research like that by Campbell, et al [Campbell, 1994], which showed about a 7% improve in metabolims among individuals in a 12 weeks time weight lifting program.
This amounts to around 150 energy per day, and the individuals obtained on average about 3 weight of muscular cells, so it appears that each lb of muscular cells increased fat burning capacity by 50 energy per day. Identical outcomes have been discovered in other research, e.g. [Pratley, 1995].
On the other hand, the calories of muscular cells has been directly calculated and discovered to be about 6 energy per lb per day[McClave, 2001]. Personally its not my primary reason for doing it, I'm after things like bone health and fighting off age-related decline in muscular cells. But I don't mind any help my metabolically challenged old body can get.
