The antioxidant activity is measured in ORAC units. ORAC score per 100 grams of raw cocoa, raw is 28,000. Acai is 18,000, the cost is 1540, and spinach is 1260. The score for the black chocolate always makes it even 13 120, which remains very high. Milk chocolate, the score is reduced to 6740.
High levels of antioxidants from chocolate to its anti-aging and anti-inflammatory. And cocoa is a rich source of minerals, magnesium, sulfur, calcium, iron, zinc, copper, manganese and potassium and some B group vitamins
How does it all? Part of the antioxidant activity is. According to researcher chocolate MD, Dr. Sue Williams of Baylor University Medical Center, (which manufactures and sells its own fabulous chocolate), dark chocolate has 510 milligrams of flavonols (protective nutrients) per 100 grams as well the following foods antioxidant known as "weight" of flavanols following numbers: 110 mg of apples, cherries 96 mg. black tea infused with 65 mg. or red wine, 65 mg.
But who think that chocolate lowers blood pressure? By far, my favorite study of black chocolate took place in 2001 at Harvard University. Lead researcher Dr. Norman K. Hollenberg, MD, professor of medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School was inspired by learning of the inhabitants of an island in Panama, which almost never developed hypertension, and drank five cups of chocolate a day. As they left the island and cocoa, were vulnerable to pressure. Wanted to know why he gave Boston volunteers cocoa cups, or high levels or low levels of flavanols. (It was a tough job to be in this study, but someone had to!) People with "high level" of cocoa showed increased activity of nitric oxide, which lowers blood pressure and promotes cardiovascular health. Problem solved!
Other studies have shown that chocolate is phenylethylamine antidepressant value, and that chocolate is also a cavity out of the compound, theobromine, which can be just as good as the discovery of fluoride in enamel. Unfortunately, most of the chocolate is rich in sugar, so as to promote tooth decay.
Which brings us to a few suggestions to enjoy the health benefits of chocolate
- Try a chocolate bar black (endangered species is a good brand), which is sweetened with raw beet sugar or agave nectar instead of cane sugar.
- Try to make your cup of chocolate with almond milk, rice milk, soy milk or a mixture of milk 2 / 3 cup coconut milk 1 / 3 cup milk instead of dairy products. Cow's milk reduces the antioxidant value of chocolate. Heat milk and add a small amount of it in a tablespoon of cocoa powder, mix until smooth, then add the remaining milk with heating. Add agave nectar to taste, usually 1 to 3 teaspoons. Mix well, pour into your favorite mug and drink.
- Brands black chocolate gourmet organic sugar is more likely to still have their flavonoids, their ORAC score and value of health.
- Trade cocoa, candy and chocolate syrup, not do it for you. How are eliminating most of the flavanols.
- Use organic, dark chocolate. Amazon has a number of brands listed in the "natural cocoa"
Enjoy your chocolate. I pretend I'm on an island in Panama, and try a few days to five cups of cocoa a day!
